Module Notes

Welcome! We’re so excited you’re here.

This is our essential course on future-state experience blueprinting.

It’s the perfect companion to our Current-State Experience Blueprinting course, which you can find on the courses page of our website

Here’s what you can expect from the course.

It has 8 modules. Each module covers a key topic that will walk you through understanding and practical application of the future state blueprinting method.

We’ve designed this course to be practical, by design. This means that the content is geared toward you being able to apply this method practically to your real work.

In the course, we have three types of content: lecture videos where we will be teaching you some essential concepts, follow alongs where we will walk you through applying this directly to your real work step-by-step, and review - our 60-second summary of the module content - good for going back to get a refresher or just locking in your learnings.

Let’s walk through the outline of what we’re going to cover in the course.

In module 1, we’ll cover what future state blueprinting is, why and when would you make a future state blueprint, and what you get out of it when you are finished. Then, we’ll walk you through the end-to-end process of blueprinting

In module 2, we get clear on what to blueprint - the services, products, experiences, and programs that can benefit from this method. We’ll talk about the scope of the blueprint - where it starts, where it ends, and we’ll help you identify your key scenarios and break them down into phases for blueprinting.

In module 3, we’ll walk through in detail the format of the future state blueprint and all the layers. We’ll share a filled out blueprint for you to explore and get familiar with.

In module 4, we cover how to plan for your blueprinting session -- who and what to bring, what you should consider doing before blueprinting, and the logistics of a blueprinting session, including how to best facilitate the session in remote, hybrid, and in-person settings. We’ll help you think about how to engage your colleagues and plan for your session.

In module 5, we help you prepare your blueprint template, define the steps of your scenario, and get it ready to be filled out by you and your coworkers

In module 6, we talk about the big day: your blueprinting session! We walk you through setting up for the session, and how to best facilitate.

In module 7, we walk you through turning your blueprint into a concrete action plan for your organization, going from workshop to work.

Module 8 is our wrap up summary - we’ll review all that you’ve learned and all the resources we’ve collected for you in the course.

So, how long will the course take?

There are 4 1/2 hours of video content in this course. We suggest that you follow along with the materials over a 2-to-4 week duration if you’re planning to “apply this as you go” to a real work context, which we highly suggest

We want you to get the full benefit of learning through direct application to your work, though if you don’t have an applicable work scenario to use in the course, that’s fine!

This course is designed to help you get hands-on, “practical practice” experience.

Let’s talk about the tools you might want to use in the course

Throughout this course we will be using Mural - a virtual whiteboard and digital collaboration tool.

We’ve set up mural templates to help you get started, and Mural offers a free account you can use if you don’t already have a digital whiteboard

You are welcome to replicate the templates into your tool of choice. All the templates will be downloadable as PDF in the resources section of the course.

In addition to Mural, we will have some course materials in Google and offline file formats.

If throughout the course you need help, we’ve linked to the contact form on our website in the module notes below. If you run into a bug or challenge accessing the course, or have questions about billing, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Alright! We can’t wait for you to roll up your digital sleeves and get blueprinting.
